Dear Andrey Olegovich,

Dear colleagues,

I am glad to welcome the participants of the round table “Russia-Turkey: the role of media in strengthening cooperation”.

Today, relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey continue to develop dynamically. An intensive political dialogue is progressing, economic indicators are growing multiple times. Cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere is expanding. In certain sectors, for example, in the energy sector, our cooperation is truly strategic. I will especially note: The bilateral partnership is based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, mutual respect and balance of interests.

A great role in strengthening trust and mutual understanding between the two peoples belongs to the mass media and communications. In the current international conditions, the formation and maintenance of a favorable information background around our countries and bilateral cooperation is particularly in demand. It is important that the journalistic community of Russia and Turkey take a constructive and responsible position, be guided by the norms of professional ethics, and be guided by the statements of the official representatives of Moscow and Ankara.

The progressive development of Russian-Turkish relations in the media sphere fully meets the interests of our countries and peoples and contributes to the further deepening of the bilateral dialogue. We consistently advocate the establishment of direct contacts and practical interaction through the leading media. We highly appreciate the results of the second Media Forum of Russian compatriots held in Istanbul a few days ago. It was attended by representatives of Russian-language foreign publications from about 30 countries, leading domestic media broadcasters, as well as industry experts.

Now the task of coordinated actions of the media of the two countries in the fight against common information challenges and threats, the development of interaction algorithms in order to stop the consequences of disinformation spread by our detractors is coming to the fore. We proceed from the need to jointly counteract various kinds of fakes and provocative stuffing in the media space.

In conclusion, I would like to assure you that the Russian Foreign Ministry will continue to provide maximum assistance to journalists of the Turkish press accredited in our country. We hope for a similar attitude of the Turkish authorities towards representatives of our media.

I wish the participants of the round table fruitful work and all the best.
