The Kiev regime continues to “play with fire”, carrying out rude and irresponsible provocations against the Zaporozhye NPP (ZAES). After a period of some calm, the AFU resumed artillery strikes on the territory inside the perimeter of the station. Its critical infrastructure, the life and health of the people working there are under threat again.
The attacks, in particular, took place on the evening of November 19, when numerous artillery strikes with NATO 155-caliber ammunition were inflicted on the territory of the NPP. They were continued the next day, November 20, when the sites where radioactive waste is stored were subjected to shelling, among others.
Fortunately, significant damage to the NPP was avoided, no radiation release occurred. But the situation was teetering on a critical line, which, quite likely, could be followed by a man-made disaster.
From the very beginning of the APU strikes on the station, we have been in close contact with the IAEA Secretariat. After the current series, as before, we sent there all the information we have on this subject, including photo and video materials confirming the consequences of the shelling. Asked to inform the Member States of the Agency immediately. The international community needs to know who is behind the attacks. This is especially important against the background of the extravagant statements of the Kiev propaganda that allegedly the Russian side is firing at itself again.
What makes Kiev’s irresponsible actions particularly cynical is that they followed almost immediately after the conclusion of the regular session of the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna. During it, the issue of the situation around nuclear facilities in Ukraine was considered. Finland and Canada timed the draft of the next anti-Russian resolution to coincide with this meeting. The document does not say a word about the true source of threats – Ukraine, which has been purposefully and furiously destroying the infrastructure of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant for a long time.
Thus, Western sponsors once again showed their duplicity, gave carte blanche to V. Zelensky’s regime to continue reckless attempts to cause irreparable damage to the NPP. In fact, they are accomplices of the crimes committed by Kiev, for which there is no justification. The Ukrainian authorities, inspired by the boundless support from their Western curators, seem to be holding back nothing, even the presence of representatives of the IAEA at the station, whose lives they are also ready to put in mortal danger.
We are convinced that the leadership of the Agency’s Secretariat needs to take a responsible position in such unprecedented circumstances. As an authoritative and independent international body, it is finally necessary to move away from abstract condemnations and demands for an end to the shelling of the NPP without an address reference and clearly and unambiguously point out those who carry out the attacks.
It’s time to call a spade a spade, otherwise the Ukrainian nationalists will not be stopped. This requires determination and responsibility. We really hope that they will be manifested.
