As part of his participation in the 15th Kirkenes Conference dedicated to the socio-economic and industrial development of the Far North, Chairman of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Arctic Council, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry N.V.Korchunov spoke online at the panel session “Green Transition Strategies in the North”.
Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, addressed the organizers and participants of the Kirkenes Conference with a welcoming speech.
N.V.Korchunov noted that, given the significant impact of climate change on the Arctic region, the transition to a low-carbon economy is of particular importance not only for adapting to its consequences and implementing the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement, but also for the sustainable socio-economic development of the Arctic. He stressed the practical contribution of the Arctic Council to the development of green transition strategies in high latitudes through the implementation of relevant projects and initiatives.
