On February 24, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov met with the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme (Sovereign) The Council of the Republic of the Sudan M. Daglo, who is in Moscow on a working visit.
During the conversation, the main attention was paid to the development of the internal political situation in Sudan. Sergey Lavrov praised the efforts of the Sudanese leadership to stabilize the situation in the country. He called on all Sudanese political forces to refrain from any steps that could lead to a new escalation of tension. He stressed the inadmissibility of external interference in the affairs of the Sudan.
Topical issues of further strengthening of traditionally friendly Russian-Sudanese relations and mutually beneficial partnership in various fields were discussed in detail. In this context, the importance of intensifying the activities of the Russian-Sudanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was noted. The intention of Moscow and Khartoum to deepen foreign policy coordination in the UN and other international platforms was also confirmed.
Sergey Lavrov and Mikhail Daglo exchanged views on African issues of mutual interest, with an emphasis on the tasks of resolving the conflicts remaining on the continent as soon as possible by political and diplomatic means in accordance with the principles of international law.
