On February 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov held talks with the UN Secretary General A.Guterres in the video conference format.

A thorough exchange of views took place on a number of topical international issues (Syria, Libya, the activities of the UN Mission in Kosovo), including in the context of Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council in February this year, Sergey Lavrov informed the UN Secretary General in detail about the ongoing negotiations with NATO and OSCE member states on Russia’s security guarantees.

Both sides stressed the importance of further strengthening the central coordinating role of the UN in global politics and confirmed the focus on the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the world Organization.

Sergey Lavrov drew particular attention to the problems experienced by the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN due to the failure of the United States to fulfill its obligations under the Agreement on the Headquarters of the World Organization regarding the return of the official premises of the Permanent Mission blocked by the Americans, as well as the issuance of visas to its employees and members of Russian delegations participating in the work of the General Assembly and its Main Committees.
