On February 24, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin had a telephone conversation with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Emergency Relief Coordinator M. Griffiths at his request.
The humanitarian situation was discussed in connection with the recent events in Ukraine, the actions taken by Russia in accordance with Article 51 of Part 7 of the UN Charter and in pursuance of the treaties on friendship and mutual assistance with the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic. Special attention was paid to the tasks of providing international humanitarian assistance, including from the UN and its specialized agencies, to the civilian population of the region.
