On February 28, at the initiative of the Emirati side, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed topical issues of further strengthening the multifaceted Russian-Emirati ties. In this regard, special attention was paid to the tasks of practical implementation of the agreements reached following the state visit of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Abu Dhabi on October 15, 2019, as well as the provisions of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Russia and the UAE, signed in Moscow on June 1, 2018.
Sergey Lavrov informed his Emirati counterpart in detail about the development of the situation in Ukraine in the light of the special military operation, outlined our principled approaches to the possibility of negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities. It was emphasized that when fulfilling the tasks of demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, ensuring the safety of the civilian population is a priority.
The Ministers discussed the schedule of further contacts.
