Turkey can supply gas from Russia and Turkmenistan to Europe, Erdogan said
“Today we are starting the construction of another energy bridge from Azerbaijan to Europe. Our country is preparing to become an important supplier of electricity to Europe, mainly green energy. The renewable energy potential of Azerbaijan is more than 27 GW of wind and solar energy on land and 157 GW of offshore wind energy in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea,” the head of state noted.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said earlier that Budapest will support the project proposed by Baku to supply electricity from Azerbaijan via an underwater wire to Romania, Hungary and other European countries. According to him, the investment can be realized in three to four years, and the introduction of such a scheme would bring Hungary closer to achieving carbon neutrality goals.
Currently, Azerbaijan exports gas to European countries via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters launched in early 2021. In October, President Ilham Aliyev promised to double these volumes by 2027. The country also exports oil to Europe through Turkey and then by sea.
