Oman plans to start construction of the first spaceport in the Middle East in the port city of Duqm this year, Arabsturbo reports.

“We have two main goals at the launch pad in Duqm: to build a launch center for commercial, professional and educational rocket users to assemble, test and launch rockets,” representatives of the Indian company NASSCOM, involved in the development of the project, emphasize. This non-profit organization plans to create the first rocket to be launched from the Duqm cosmodrome.

The Space Settlement Center (the name of the future spacecraft launch center) will not only allow Oman to start space research, but will also increase the interest of young people in this scientific industry.

“The rockets will inspire young people to engage in science and technology and set a standard that future generations must achieve and surpass,” the news portal quotes the company as saying.

The Omani authorities are developing global plans for the development of the space industry, Arabsturbo adds. In the future, the country will also develop a project for the construction of a Space Research Center.
