The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral relations with an emphasis on the implementation of agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries. In the light of the lifting of quarantine restrictions, a general opinion was expressed on the expediency of restoring the dynamics of face-to-face contacts in all areas of bilateral cooperation, including meetings at the highest and high levels, as soon as possible.
The importance of strengthening close foreign policy coordination between Russia and China in the UN and its Security Council, the Group of Twenty, the SCO, BRICS, APEC and other formats was emphasized.
Wang Yi outlined the Chinese side’s vision of the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as approaches to its political settlement. Sergey Lavrov positively assessed Beijing’s constructive line and confirmed the high degree of closeness of our assessments in this complex of issues.
A number of topical international topics were considered, including the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the situation on the Korean peninsula, and in Afghanistan. The futility of attempts by third countries to hinder the healthy, dynamic progress of Russian-Chinese relations, to restrain the development of our countries by imposing sanctions and other illegitimate methods has been confirmed.
The sides noted with satisfaction the closeness or coincidence of positions on all the issues discussed.
The conversation took place in a traditionally trusting and friendly manner, in line with the spirit of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
