Russia and Kazakhstan have signed roadmaps for the development of infrastructure at the state border. This applies to road and railway points, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the republic.
The 17th meeting of the transport sub-commission of the intergovernmental commission on cooperation between the two countries, chaired by the head of the department Marat Karabayev and the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev, was held in Moscow.
The meeting discussed the main areas of cooperation in the field of transport, including joint plans to realize the logistics potential of the international transport corridor “North – South”.
As a result, a protocol and joint action plans were signed – road maps for the development of the infrastructure of road and railway checkpoints on the Kazakh-Russian state border.
The parties expect that the implementation of the roadmaps will lead to an increase in cargo turnover and passenger traffic between the countries, and this in turn will ensure the further progressive development of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics potential.
“Agreements have been reached to raise the status of the transport subcommittee to the level of ministers of transport departments of the two countries and to coordinate a draft agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on the organization of cooperation in the development of transport, transport infrastructure and checkpoints across the state border,” the ministry said.
Earlier it was reported that a number of bilateral meetings took place on the sidelines of the CIS Council of Ministers in Samarkand. The cooperation of Belarus with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was discussed by the Foreign Ministers.
