On April 26-27, 2023, Astrakhan hosted the international forum “Transport Logistics of the Caspian Region 2023”.

A year has passed since the introduction of tough sanctions by Western countries. Transport and logistics companies are gradually rebuilding the usual routes and supply chains. The North-South MTC opens up new opportunities for importers and exporters, but this transport corridor has many limitations that business and government industry structures have yet to overcome.
Pressing issues of cargo traffic routing were discussed at the forum, participants were able to share their accumulated experience.
Among the delegates at the forum were cargo owners, shipping, as well as transport and logistics companies, railway operators, investment companies, government agencies, diplomatic structures, representatives of the SEZ of the Caspian region, ports, container lines, etc.
The forum was opened by representatives of state and diplomatic bodies: welcoming words were delivered by Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Kazem Jalali, Ambassador of Iran to Russia.
Ilya Volynsky, Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of the Astrakhan region, Mehdi Akuchekian, Consul General of Iran in Astrakhan, Konstantin Markelov, Rector of ASU also spoke.
The forum started with a session on the transport and logistics potential of the Caspian region.
Sergey Andreev, Advisor to the Secretary General of the KSTP and Vladimir Isaev, Deputy Director General of the Business Center for Economic Development of the CIS, highlighted the problems, prospects and opportunities of the North-South ITC.
Vera Vtorygina, Director of the branch of the Russian Railways Logistics company, spoke about the development of new logistics routes and services within the corridor.
The Forum continued the report of the session’s partner, BCS World of Investments. Oleg Baizullaev, Regional Coordinator of the Personal Brokerage Service Department in the South spoke on the topic: “Liquidity management. Financial transactions for importers and exporters”.
Representatives of the company “Lengiprechtrans”, Pavel Belkin and Alla Selezneva told about the main trends in the volume of cargo transportation by various modes of transport in the region, as well as about the development of a new transport and logistics infrastructure of the Russian grain market.
Andrey Pazbin, General Director of TD “Made in the Ulyanovsk region”, highlighted the current problems of agrologistics in the North-South MTK from the point of view of the cargo owner.
Vadim Mishchenko, General Director of the MIC Spb, spoke about the opportunities for fleet operators in the region: the project of a new universal cargo vessel was presented.
The forum was followed by a session on logistics and infrastructure solutions in the Caspian region.
Sergey Milushkin, General Director of the SEZ “Lotos” spoke about new projects based on the SEZ.
Dmitry Lushechkin, representative of the Volga Directorate for the Management of TSK CDU of JSC “Russian Railways”, highlighted the transport and logistics solutions of the North-SOUTH MTK at the Volga Railway landfill
Sergey Saburov, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of International Transport Corridors, made a report on Russia’s strategy for the development of the Caspian logistics ecosystem and the North-South ITC in the new geopolitical conditions.
Alexey Zaitsev, CEO of MARINERUS, spoke about the peculiarities of shipping, as well as the specifics of river and sea logistics in the Caspian and adjacent regions.
The fourth session was devoted to the popular direction of import and export, which was described in detail by Arkady Ivanov, Head of the Logistics Committee of the Afanasy Nikitin Association and Alexander Sharov, Director of the Rusiranexpo Group of Companies, highlighting practical experience and features of transportation to/through Iran and India.
Sergey Rybakov, Director for Strategic Development of the Security Council “RIFAMS”, also spoke at the session about the specifics of the organization and execution of insurance contracts in cooperation with Iran.
The sessions were accompanied by lively discussions of the participants.
Then, on April 27, the delegates of the forum continued to communicate in an informal atmosphere of a country event.
