Venezuela has invited Russian athletes to become honorary guests of the games of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) 2023. This is reported by teleSUR, a partner of the TV BRICS network.
“Russia is a sporting power. Its athletes stimulate our games with their good results, they will give them a new impetus,” said Pablo Justis, Vice Minister of Youth and Sports of Venezuela, recalling that Venezuela invited Russia to the ALBA Games as part of a bilateral sports agreement signed in October 2021.
These games will be held in the cities of Caracas, La Guaira and Miranda, more than 3 thousand athletes from Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Lucia will take part in them.
Athletes will compete in 33 disciplines, including chess, athletics, basketball, baseball, billiards, speed skating, cycling, fencing, dominoes and football. About 30 objects have been prepared for these games.
The first ALBA Games were held in Havana in 2005, 2 thousand athletes from 18 countries participated in them. In 2011, Venezuela hosted the fourth Games.
Ecuador was supposed to host the fifth Games in 2013. However, they were postponed three times for various reasons.
“It is a great honor for Venezuela to host such a large representation of athletes. Our country as a venue will meet all expectations,” said Rander Peña, Deputy Foreign Minister for Latin American Affairs.
