Iran is ready to become a member of the BRICS association. The corresponding statement was made by the country’s president Ebrahim Raisi in an interview with the Lebanese TV channel “Al-Mayadin”. According to him, Iran intends to participate in the creation of a multipolar world on an equal basis with other members of the group.

“After joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, we decided to apply to the BRICS and are preparing to join this group of countries”

The Head of State also mentioned that due to strong relations with China and the Russian Federation, joining the SCO brought additional benefits to Iran and opened the way to international markets (the country completed the registration of membership in the SCO in early 2023). In addition, the politician stressed that Tehran seeks dialogue with all states on the basis of common interests.

Recall that in June last year, Iran and Argentina submitted official applications to join the BRICS bloc.

In March 2023, the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Persian country Ehsan Khanduzi said that Iran considers it important to develop cooperation with the SCO and BRICS, since these international organizations will play a significant role in the global economy in the near future. According to Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali, BRICS and SCO have become a new pole of power in the world.
