On June 20, Director General of the CIS Business Center Vadim Ganin spoke at the North-SOUTH round table in India (New Delhi). The round table was led by the Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce Nikhil Kanodia. Trade missions, embassies and transport and logistics companies also took part.

Vadim Ganin welcomed the participants on behalf of the Commonwealth of Independent States and pointed out the importance of the project for the CIS countries.

The North-South MTC is one of the developing transport corridors that unites most of the CIS countries and has the shortest distance of cargo transportation from the CIS countries to the countries of Asia, East Africa and the Middle East with the right to choose one of three delivery routes: the Western Route, the Eastern Route and the Trans-Caspian route.

The relevance of the development of MTK “North-South” has increased in 2022. Today we see the active participation of the CIS countries in the development of corridors:

1. Turkmenistan announced its accession to the “Agreement on Transport Corridors”,

2. The heads of the customs services of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran signed a “Memorandum on the simplification of transportation”,

3. Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan have agreed on the construction of the Rasht-Astara road,

4. Russian Railways has launched a container service that operates along the Eastern Crossing: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, India.

India is a strategic partner in the North-South corridor, but the main problem is the unidirectionality of the flow of goods from north to south. In this regard, it was decided to create  The Union of International Economic Zones of the countries of the Caspian region and the participants of the international corridor “North-South” for the mutual exchange of commodity flows, technology transfer and increased imports to the CIS countries.

Based on the results of the round table, the participants decided to hold a round table on the development of the North-South transport corridor in Iran (Tehran) on October 11 within the framework of EXPO EURASIA IRAN 2023.
