Preliminary data of the CEC: Shavkat Mirziyoyev won the presidential election of Uzbekistan

The current president of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, scored 87.05 percent of the vote and is winning the early presidential elections, said the head of the Central Election Commission, Zainiddin Nizamkhodjayev.

“87.05% of the total number of voters voted for the candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev,” the head of the election commission said at a press conference.

In second place with 4.43 percent of votes is the candidate of the Social Democratic party “Adolat” (“Justice”), the first deputy chairman of the Supreme Court Robakhon Makhmudova, in third place is the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) Ulugbek Inoyatov with 4.02 percent. The fourth was the leader of the Environmental Party Abdushukur Khamzayev, who won 3.74 percent of the votes.

According to the CEC, the final turnout was 79.8 percent, or 15.6 million voters. Mirziyoyev won the presidential election in 2021, gaining 80.31 percent of the vote with a turnout of 80.04 percent.

Early presidential elections were held on Sunday in Uzbekistan. This is the first election of the head of state after amendments to the constitution providing for the extension of the term of office of the president from five to seven years. According to the constitutional law, the current head of state, 65-year-old Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who holds the post for the second term, can run for this post again.
