On July 20, the first stage of the greenhouse complex for the production of fruit and vegetable products of protected soil “Chegem Agro” was launched in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

The greenhouse complex is located in the Chegemsky district of the Republic. The first stage of the enterprise with an area of 37.6 hectares will provide 461 residents of the region with work, and its capacity will be 19.2 thousand tons of tomatoes per year.

The total budget of the project is 9.2 billion rubles.

The new production will allow year-round supply of Russian tomatoes to the population of the North Caucasus and Central Federal Districts through the stores of federal and regional retail chains.

It is assumed that the work of the enterprise will annually bring taxes to the budget of the Republic in the amount of about 223 million rubles.

The Chegem Agro complex uses advanced technologies with automatic microclimate control, including systems for additional illumination, temperature control, ventilation, humidity, irrigation and nutrition. Modern biological methods of plant protection from pests and diseases are also used in greenhouses, and bumblebees are used for pollination of vegetable crops, which naturally increases yields and improves the taste of fruits.

In the future, it is planned to expand the territory of the greenhouse complex to 100 hectares and its output to the production of 51 thousand tons of tomatoes per year. The number of jobs will be increased to more than 1,200, and the inflow of additional revenues to the regional budget will amount to 600 million rubles of taxes annually.

In addition, the complex has its own distribution center, where sorting, packaging and shipment of finished products for sale is carried out.

The opening of a large greenhouse complex corresponds to the vector of development of the country’s consumer market.

So, according to the forecast of the Center for Industry Expertise of the RSHB, in 2023 in Russia will continue the trend to increase the consumption of vegetables and melons to 105.1 kg per person per year in the direction of the recommended value by the Ministry of Health. At the same time, tomatoes account for about 20% of this volume, and greenhouses are just one of the main locomotives of vegetable production.
