Kazakhstan retains leadership in Central Asia in the number of Russian schools

In the new academic year, 3,606 schools with the Russian language of instruction will operate in Kazakhstan. Of these, more than two thousand educational institutions conduct mixed education, and in 1121 schools they teach only in Russian. In total, there are about 6,950 public schools in Kazakhstan.

According to this indicator, Kazakhstan firmly holds the position of leader in Central Asia, the closest pursuers are three or more times behind, the Profile reports. Uzbekistan ranks second, with more than a thousand such schools, and Kyrgyzstan is third with 751 Russian schools.

According to official statistics, more than fifteen percent of Russians live in Kazakhstan, this is the second most common nationality in the country. And therefore the popularity of Russian schools is not surprising.

Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan Kassymzhomart Tokayev noted that the Russian language and its study remain very important for Kazakhstan. According to him, Kazakhs should know Russian well due to the geographical location of the country.
