In the first half of the year, more than 60 4G base stations were put into operation in Belarus. This was reported to BelTA by the Ministry of Communications and Informatization.

The main direction of the development of the telecommunications network of RUE Beltelecom is the completion of the process of switching subscribers to the software and hardware IMS platform, which allows providing subscribers with the full range of modern telecommunications services on a single subscriber line. More than 3.76 million subscribers are connected to it. “The construction of multiservice networks allows not only to improve the quality and expand the list of services provided, but also to optimize the costs of operating telecommunication networks,” the ministry noted.

Cellular mobile telecommunications of the second and third generation cover 99.3% and 98.6% of the territory of the republic, respectively. In January – June 2023, 62 base stations of the LTE (4G) standard were put into operation, which allowed to increase the coverage of the population with mobile telecommunication services of this standard.

The growth in the number of connections to broadband Internet access services also affects the width of the external Internet access channel. According to the ministry, in the first half of 2023, it was increased by 600 Gbit/s and as of July 1, 2023, it amounted to 3370 Gbit/s. “In order to modernize existing data transmission networks to improve the quality and volume of services provided, work continued on connecting subscribers using passive optical network technology (GPON), which allows to provide the data transfer rate is up to 100 Mbit/s and higher,” the ministry said. The number of subscribers connected using this technology increased by more than 8.8 thousand in the first half of 2023 and amounted to more than 2.9 million.

The total number of subscribers of fixed broadband Internet access amounted to more than 3.15 million subscribers, and the penetration rate of fixed broadband Internet access per 100 residents was 34.3 units. The number of IP-TV subscribers in the first half of this year amounted to almost 2.5 million subscribers.
