Specialists of the company “Mind” with the help of artificial intelligence have developed a drone that is autonomous from satellite navigation systems. To create it, the neural network was trained on the database obtained after the drone races, Mikhail Lipatov, CEO of the developer company, told TASS.

“The drone is designed for fully autonomous navigation. It can fly, including underground, in caves, can be used to search and rescue people. <...> All tactical operations are carried out on board, it was developed taking into account the use of neural networks,” Lipatov said, noting that the drone can navigate through cameras in space where satellite navigation is completely suppressed..

The carrying capacity of the drone is about 3-4 kg, so it can be used to deliver a first aid kit, a sensor to victims, and the dimensions allow it to penetrate into places that are difficult for a person to reach. The maximum speed is up to 90 km/h. Development began at the end of 2022. At the same time, the company “Mind” has initiated drone biathlon competitions since 2016. This made it possible to gather a base for the development of systems related to neural networks and artificial intelligence.

“The most important purpose of this type of esports is the development of systems related to artificial intelligence for full autonomy. <...> First of all, we trained neural networks on a digital polygon, increasing its capabilities based on a sample of data that was obtained at competitions,” Lipatov said.

The development was presented at the Archipelago-2023 intensive, which took place in Novosibirsk from July 28 to August 7. In total, more than a hundred different competitions for drones took place as part of the intensive.
