On September 8, 2023, an expert group meeting was held in Minsk using video conferencing to coordinate the draft Statement of the heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States on the support and promotion of the Russian language as the language of interethnic communication.
The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
Russian Russian is important in strengthening the common cultural and humanitarian space of the Commonwealth, the draft Statement notes the importance of preserving and popularizing the unique linguistic and historical and cultural heritage of the CIS member States, states the importance of the Russian language in strengthening the common cultural and humanitarian space of the Commonwealth, confirms the commitment to the use of the Russian language in mutual contacts and on the platforms of international organizations and forums.
The draft Statement is planned to be adopted at the next meeting Council of CIS Heads of State.
