The joint work of law enforcement units of the customs services of the CIS countries in the fight against smuggling and drugs has yielded good results, Deputy Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Oleg Gubaidulin told reporters.
A meeting of the Committee of Heads of Law Enforcement Units (KGGP) of the Council of Heads of Customs Services (SRTS) of the CIS countries is taking place in Issyk-Kul region.
As an example, Gubaidulin cited a special customs operation in which over 20 tons of precursors of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized. He also noted that the KGPP is working on the implementation of the information and analytical project “Matrix”, which should increase the effectiveness of work to counter smuggling.
“We have a lot of tasks, there is potential and a practical result,” said the deputy head of the Russian customs.
At the same time, according to him, the initiative of those who are members of the working group is not always enough for a more coordinated work of the committee members. There is also a feature related to the legislation of the CIS countries.
“Of course, states work based on their laws. I think it is important to bring our approaches and principles of work organization closer together. We must understand that criminals, as a rule, go to another jurisdiction when they see that they are given a short term there. To prevent this from happening, the legislative bases need to be gradually brought closer together,” Gubaidulin stressed.
He clarified that the legislative definition of types of crimes should be more or less identical, and responsibility for them should be equalized.
