The CEC clarified how the process of submitting documents for registration of candidates for general local elections will take place.

From Tuesday, September 19, the period of submission of documents for registration of candidates for the general local elections, which are scheduled for November 5 in Moldova, begins, the Central Election Commission of the country reported.

The CEC explained that in order to do this, political parties and electoral blocs must submit to the district electoral councils: a written application for registration as an electoral competitor; a resolution or decision confirmed by a protocol or an extract from it from a meeting of the central or territorial body of a political party, electoral bloc on the nomination of candidates; biographical data of the candidate; a statement a candidate’s consent to run for elected office; a declaration of property for the last year before local elections; a certificate of non-conviction; application for suspension of functions incompatible with the office of mayor for the duration of the mandate (if the person is elected and the mandate is recognized as valid); application for removal from office from the start of the election campaign; copy of the diploma of education – in the case of candidates for the position of mayor, it is necessary to confirm the presence of at least compulsory general education; copy of the candidate’s identity card (buletin).

In the case of independent candidates, as specified in the CEC, the same requirements apply, but instead of a document “a resolution or decision confirmed by a protocol or an extract from it from a meeting of the central or territorial body of a political party, an electoral bloc on the nomination of candidates”, it is necessary to provide signature sheets with the required number of signatures of supporters. Independent candidates must personally apply to the District Electoral Council and submit subscription lists along with other documents required for registration.

“The list of candidates for the position of adviser is compiled in Romanian and submitted to the electoral council both in paper and electronic form with a gender quota of at least 40% for both sexes and according to the formula – at least 4 candidates of the same sex for every 10 seats,” the CEC clarified.

General local elections are scheduled in Moldova on November 5. They will elect 898 mayors and 11,058 local councillors.
