On October 12-13, 2023, the International Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” will be held at the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly – the Tauride Palace.
The event is organized by the IPA CIS, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Geographical Society with the support of the CIS Executive Committee and the Government of St. Petersburg.
Representatives of parliaments and executive authorities (including relevant ministries and departments) of the CIS member states and other countries, the world scientific community and international organizations will discuss the problems of sustainable development of mountain regions of the world, as well as strengthening cooperation in this area.
The program of the forum includes a plenary session, a panel discussion and six round tables, where issues of socio-economic aspects of the development of mountain regions, conservation and popularization of the culture of mountain ethnic groups, employment of the local population, optimization of ecological and economic relations in the mountains, conservation of biodiversity, hazardous natural and man-made processes and others will be considered.
Also within the framework of the forum will be held:
– Constituent Assembly of the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Territories
– meeting of the working group of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation to consider issues of legal regulation in the field of development and conservation of mountain territories in the Russian Federation
– Joint meeting of the North Caucasus Scientific Cooperation, the Russian Geographical Society and the Commission for the Study of Mountains of the International Geographical Union.
As a result of the discussions, proposals will be formed to improve legislation aimed at the development and protection of mountain territories, strengthening interregional and cross-border cooperation, the development of eco-tourism, ensuring a healthy environment and improving the quality of life of residents.
The event will host the international TRAVEL HUB forum “COMMONWEALTH”, the theme of which in 2023 will be mountain tourism in the CIS countries.
