The lack of the necessary volume of clinical data is one of the key obstacles to the introduction of IT technologies in healthcare. Siberian State Medical University has launched the world’s first Russian-language clinical data repository SibMed Data Clinical Repository. It is a digital platform for storing and quick access to medical information. The SibSMU project is unique for the country and will allow creating new solutions for healthcare in order to improve the quality and accessibility of medical care, it was implemented within the framework of the Priority 2030 program of the national project “Science and Universities”.

The university’s repository is the first unique Russian—language repository of depersonalized patient data. With the help of SibMed Clinical Data Repository, you can develop and test medical algorithms, as well as create unique products for healthcare and business. It contains about 450 thousand datasets (databases of scientific and clinical research) that will help in creating products for business and medicine, scientific research, analysis of therapeutic and diagnostic techniques, and improving the technological efficiency of the industry. The data collection will be constantly updated.

The SibMed Clinical Data Repository project includes the formation of a digital infrastructure for storing and quick access to medical information, as well as an educational program aimed at developing competencies for working with structured and unstructured biomedical data to solve research and technological problems.

The repository combines databases of outpatient and inpatient services of multidisciplinary clinics of SibSMU, contains anonymized medical information and is continuously updated. It is depersonalized in accordance with the requirements of federal legislation and contains textual and numerical information, including data on laboratory and instrumental studies, treatment, and medical images. The platform has a wide sample: every year more than 100,000 patients apply to the clinics of the Siberian Medical University for help.

“Thanks to its infrastructural and expert capabilities, SibSMU is not only a participant, but also an initiator of changes in the healthcare industry. The world’s first Russian-language clinical repository completely reverses the idea of the availability of medical data for the field of technology development and transfer. By removing the main barrier, we will accelerate the creation of product solutions and research progress. Major Russian technology companies have already tested the platform,” said Evgeny Kulikov, Rector of SibSMU.

To ensure the effective work of users with biomedical data and the repository, the authors of the project have developed an educational course “Culture of working with biomedical data on the SibMed Data Clinical Repository platform”. You can complete the training on the repository’s website after authorization.

SibSMU partners have started working with the repository. The SberMedAI team was one of the first to test the capabilities of the SibMed Clinical Data Repository platform.

“Today, this is the most detailed Russian-language medical dataset, which is in the public domain and gives scientific and practical teams the opportunity to conduct research in the field of medical ml models,” says Vladimir Koch, head of SberMedAI.

Both a scientist and an organization can access the clinical data repository independently. For users, depending on the tasks, basic and advanced levels of use are provided.
