Russia welcomes the establishment of the International Organization for the Russian Language and offers to place its headquarters in Sochi, it will be engaged in popularization in the world, President Vladimir Putin said at the CIS summit.
“We welcome the fact that today an agreement will be signed on the establishment of an international organization for the Russian language, which will promote it in the world. It is important that the organization’s activities in the Russian language are not limited to the Commonwealth space, but will be open for accession by all states that share its goals and principles,” Putin was quoted as saying by TASS.
He noted that he expects the operational launch of the functioning of this organization and offered to place its headquarters in Sochi.
Russian Russian Language Year is being successfully held in the CIS, Putin also said, and thanked the partners for supporting the statement adopted today at the summit on the promotion of the Russian language as the most important consolidating element of the entire post-Soviet space and a means of interethnic communication.
According to him, the idea of adopting such a statement belongs to the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the laureates and finalists of the All-Russian Teacher of the Year competition, called it important to create such conditions so that visitors from post-Soviet countries understand the language and culture of Russia.
