International cargo transportation between the ports of the North Caucasus is growing rapidly

According to the latest data from the North Caucasus Railway, the number of loaded containers transported to the Russian Railways between the Black Sea-Azov and Caspian ports increased by a record 53% in January-September 2023 and amounted to 43.2 thousand. The volume of container cargo transported has increased by almost half over the same period.

This trend continues at the present time. It is due to the more active use of the railways, associated ports and ferry lines in the foreign economic relations of the Russian Federation, other EAEU countries and states friendly to Russia and the Eurasian Union.

The structure of transported container cargo is dominated by products of chemical industry, construction industry and transport engineering. In the future, it is expected to increase foreign trade and transit container transportation of agricultural products, chemical fertilizers and petroleum products by the Russian Railways.

Transportation to Russian ports on the Caspian Sea (and in the opposite direction) is most actively increasing in this region, which is associated with an increase in cargo loading of the sea and rail-ferry sectors of the international transit corridor “North-South”: Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran with a branch through Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan.
