On November 16, negotiations between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela I. Hill took place in Moscow.

During the meeting, held in a traditionally warm and friendly atmosphere, the parties noted the dynamic development of the entire complex of Russian-Venezuelan relations, outlined steps to strengthen the strategic partnership between Moscow and Caracas in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The Ministers emphasized the almost complete coincidence of the approaches of Russia and Venezuela in world affairs, noted the fruitful nature of cooperation in the UN, in particular, within the framework of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, and on other multilateral platforms. The commitment to building a truly multipolar world and the need for strict observance of universally recognized principles and norms of international law were confirmed. The categorical unacceptability of the use of unilateral sanctions measures as an instrument of pressure on sovereign states was emphasized.

The Russian side expressed satisfaction with the development of the intra-Venezuelan dialogue aimed at resolving the contradictions existing in society within the framework of the constitutional political process, and confirmed support for the Government and people of Venezuela in protecting national sovereignty.

In the regional context, Venezuela’s focus on strengthening integration mechanisms, especially ALBA and CELAC, was welcomed. Sergey Lavrov spoke in favor of promoting Russia’s dialogue with leading regional associations, as well as promoting rapprochement between Latin America and the EAEU.
