Alexey Overchuk summed up the results of the first day of work of the Russian delegation at the APEC summit

Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk spoke at the session of the APEC summit “Sustainability, Climate and Fair Energy Transition”, took part in the dialogue of APEC leaders with representatives of the Business Advisory Council and summed up the results of the first day of the Russian delegation’s work at the APEC summit in San Francisco in an interview with media representatives.

In his speech, Alexey Overchuk noted that the economies of the APEC region are striving for sustainable growth. This implies their barrier-free interaction, as well as maintaining a balance between meeting practical needs and reducing anthropogenic pressure on the climate.

“If we are really talking about sustainable and inclusive development of the entire region, then no economy can be excluded from the supply process and participation in international value chains,” the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.

The Deputy Prime Minister also told the participants of the session “Sustainability, climate and Fair energy Transition” about the growth and diversification of the Russian economy. For 9 months of this year, the country’s GDP grew by 2.8%. By the end of the year, it may reach 3%. The volume of trade turnover between Russia and APEC economies by the end of 2022 increased by 6.1% compared to 2021. In the first 8 months of 2023, the volume of trade turnover increased by another 11.8%.

Alexey Overchuk stressed that the active development of the East–West and North–South transport corridors by Russia and the EAEU and CIS countries, as well as their integration with China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative, contributes to increasing the sustainability of Russia and the entire region. The key priority of the country is efficient energy transfer, which would be carried out on a scientific basis and in conditions of technological neutrality.

“Russia is a Pacific power, and it remains a reliable major supplier of energy resources to foreign markets. The main focus is on supplying the economies of the Asia–Pacific region and have actually reoriented their commodity flows from the west to the east,” Alexey Overchuk said in conclusion of his speech.

The Deputy Prime Minister took part in a dialogue between APEC leaders and representatives of the Business Advisory Council, which operates at the forum and is designed to increase the potential of public-private partnership, create conditions for responsible business activities focused not only on economic indicators, but also on the implementation of sustainable development objectives.

In an interview with journalists, Alexey Overchuk stressed the eventful program of the first day of the forum, noting that the Russian delegation at the summit held positive contacts with a number of economic leaders, and experts from the parties continued working on the final declaration of the summit.

“Tomorrow there will be a second session with the participation of leaders – “Interconnectedness and building inclusive and sustainable economies”, another discussion, as intense and intense as it was today,” Alexey Overchuk summed up.
