Meeting with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga

President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with President of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga in Dubai within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and this reputable financial institution were discussed at the meeting.

In this context, the Head of State appreciated the contribution of the World Bank in financing the implementation of measures to adapt to the effects of climate change and their prevention.

The country’s President, Emomali Rahmon, called the World Bank one of Tajikistan’s main development partners and expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with the Bank.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation of cooperation in the fields of water and energy, agriculture, environment and rural development, economic policy, health sector development, education, urban planning and poverty reduction.

During the conversation  Emomali Rahmon stressed the need to resume the implementation of the CASA-1000 transmission line project connecting the energy market of Central and South Asia through Afghanistan.

Currently, the bank in Tajikistan is financing 28 projects totaling 1.5 billion US dollars.

One of the important areas of cooperation with the World Bank was the implementation of inclusive and structural reforms of the country’s economy, especially in the fields of electric communications, digitalization, civil aviation and improving the investment climate.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

At the end of the conversation, Emomali Rahmon invited World Bank Group President Ajay Bangu to pay a visit to Tajikistan. The invitation was accepted with satisfaction.
