On December 11, Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, had a telephone conversation with Hussein Sheikh, Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee, member of the Fatah Central Committee, Minister of Civil Affairs of the Palestinian National Authority.
During the conversation, the current situation in and around the Gaza Strip was discussed in detail. At the same time, the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, leading to numerous civilian casualties, and humanitarian assistance to the residents of Gaza was stressed. The task of preventing the exodus of the population from the sector, which should become an integral part of a sovereign Palestinian State within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, is also emphasized.
They confirmed their mutual interest in further developing traditionally friendly Russian-Palestinian relations, including maintaining an active political dialogue.
