On December 29, 49 thousand doses of vaccine against diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, meningitis and others were delivered to the Gaza Strip in coordination with Israel.
Working in collaboration with UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), the Government Coordination Group in the Territories (COGAT) facilitated the delivery of donated vaccines to the Gaza Strip in order to prevent epidemics of infectious diseases there. Residents of the Gaza Strip will receive vaccinations from UN humanitarian organizations and international medical organizations that work in coordination with Israel as part of humanitarian activities for the benefit of the civilian population of Gaza.
Earlier this week, another 80,000 doses of the vaccine, donated by UNICEF with the assistance of the State of Israel, arrived in the Gaza Strip. These were vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella for children under 6 years old.
The following is a list of vaccines and doses delivered to the Gaza Strip:
• 26,000 doses of polio vaccine, sufficient for 260,000 people.
• 3,000 doses of TB vaccine – for 60,000 people.
• 1,500 doses of MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) – for 1,500 people.
• 3250 doses of hepatitis vaccine – 12,500 people.
• 4,500 doses of combined vaccine against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B and the bacterium Haemophilus influenzae, which causes meningitis – for 45,000 people.
• 9750 doses of vaccine against the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, which causes meningitis, ear infections and blood infections – for 97,500 people.
• 1,500 doses of diphtheria vaccine for 15,000 people.
• 1,610 doses of combined tetanus and diphtheria vaccine – for 16,100 people.
Total: 49,130 doses of vaccines, sufficient for 139,8800 people.
