On March 19, Russian-Venezuelan consultations in an interdepartmental format on biological safety issues took place in Caracas.
Assessments of threats to biological security in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in the world, were exchanged. Special attention was paid to the US military biological activities carried out outside the national territory in violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons (BTWC). The issues of developing bilateral cooperation in the field of biosafety, as well as strengthening the WHO regime, were discussed.
The meeting confirmed the unity of approaches of Russia and Venezuela to the issue of biological safety. The need for further close coordination and constructive interaction was noted both in the bilateral format and on specialized multilateral platforms, primarily in the UN and within the framework of the BTWC.
