On April 11, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, M. L. Bogdanov, had a telephone conversation with Hussein Sheikh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the PLO and member of the Fatah Central Committee.
In the course of the conversation the problems of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the tasks of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the provision of necessary humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian population were thoroughly discussed.
At the same time, the importance of consolidating international efforts aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders was emphasized in the context of the ongoing discussions on granting the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations.
