Under Russia’s chairmanship, the BRICS group of countries is planning active work in three key areas – politics and security, economy and finance, cultural and humanitarian contacts. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting of the Commission of the General Council of the United Russia Party on International Cooperation and Support for Compatriots Abroad.

Taking into account the accession of five new members earlier this year, the main priority is the successful integration of the new participants into the general architecture of strategic partnership while maintaining the effectiveness of all existing mechanisms.

“Plans are being developed for the International Inter-Party Forum in the BRICS plus/outreach format, which will be held at the initiative of the United Russia political party in June-July in Vladivostok. We welcome the plans to hold it in an expanded format with the participation of our partners from the CIS. It is important to use this factor to further strengthen ties with the world’s majority countries” – Sergey Lavrov.

BRICS is also interested in strengthening its role in the international monetary and financial systems, development of interbank cooperation and use of national currencies of the member states in international trade. This is reported by the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Plans to create its own rating agency and stock exchange are being actively discussed in the context of strengthening the BRICS’ influence on the world stage.

From January 1, 2024 the BRICS presidency passed to Russia, it will last until the end of the year and includes more than 200 events with a wide range of topics.
