President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called on the delegates of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly (VNC) to explain to the people the goals of the republic’s global development, Sputnik correspondent reports.
The meeting of the National Assembly in the new constitutional status is taking place in Minsk on April 24-25.
“Delegates should be able to explain to people, to include society in political discussions. Today it is impossible without it. We will not talk to our citizens and the people about the global development goals of the state – others will do it for us,” the head of state said, speaking to the delegates of the National Assembly.
Buffer against dangerous processes
The Belarusian leader added that the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly will become a buffer against dangerous processes that may run counter to the interests of society and the state, noting that the National Assembly has received exclusive powers to suspend the decision of any official or body.
“Thus, the assembly will become a protective buffer against possible dangerous processes that run counter to the interests of the state and society,” Lukashenko stressed.
The Head of State clarified: the delegates of the National Assembly represent the voice of the people and their collective mind, not just a general assembly, but the national conscience.
