Russian leader Vladimir Putin held talks with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel in the Green Living Room of the Grand Kremlin Palace. Before the meeting, the heads of state watched the Victory Parade on Red Square and took part in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier.
Vladimir Putin noted that Russia’s relations with Cuba are based on feelings of friendship and mutual respect, and this has always been the case. This is reported by the Kremlin’s press service.
“You are our friends and brothers. The Russian Federation can always count on Cuba’s support,” Diaz-Canel said.
As the assistant to the head of state for International Affairs Yuri Ushakov reported, the Russian-Cuban negotiations involve two rounds – first in a narrow format, then with the participation of delegations. According to the Kremlin representative, there are many issues on the agenda for discussion.
Russia and Cuba are developing cooperation in energy, metallurgy, transport infrastructure, peaceful space exploration, agriculture, biopharmaceuticals, and tourism. In 2023, a record number of Russians visited the island state during the post–pandemic period – about 185,000.
Earlier, the 10th anniversary summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) began in Moscow. It is attended by the leaders of the Eurasian group – the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan (Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Sadyr Zhaparov) and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. Miguel Diaz-Canel is personally present at the EAEU summit for the first time.
