Putin congratulates South African President Ramaphosa on his re-election

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his counterpart from Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election as head of state. The telegram was published on the Kremlin website on Saturday.

“Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on your re-election as President of the Republic of South Africa. <...> I wish you new successes in such a responsible activity at the head of state, as well as health and well-being,’ the text of the telegram stresses.

Putin praised his colleague’s contribution to the development of relations between Moscow and Pretoria and coordination of efforts in international associations. He added that he was looking forward to seeing Ramaphosa at the BRICS summit in Kazan in late October.

South Africa’s National Assembly re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa as president for the next five years. The Democratic Alliance and the African National Congress (ANC)-led party voted in favour of the politician. Ramaphosa received 283 votes.
