Belarus and the Leningrad Region will reach a trade turnover of $ 1 billion by the end of 2024, President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko, Sputnik correspondent reports.
“We once dreamed of a billion dollars in trade turnover, this year our specialists are confident that we will overcome this milestone. And I think that we need to talk about maybe two billion already today (Sputnik in the future),” the head of state said.
To restore the railways
Lukashenko recalled that Belarus has engaged in the restoration of railways in the direction of the northern ports. And he noted that in Soviet times, these railway lines were able to handle about one and a half to two times as much cargo.
“We will restore these roads this year, and there will be no problems with the transfer of goods in the northern direction,” he stressed.
The President also noted that the Belarusian side has started building its own ports in the Leningrad region.
“Including Murmansk, but you can’t get there without you. Therefore, I think that we can overcome this two billion milestone (in mutual trade — Sputnik) in the next five years for sure. Our main goal is to move forward together, to build up industrial and scientific potential and strengthen technological sovereignty, which we talk about so much today,” the Belarusian leader stated.
