Science fiction writers have become active participants in Archipelago 2024. They will present the image of Russia of the future in science fiction stories and offer them to representatives of the film industry for adaptation. The intensive program will also include film screenings of Russian futuristic films and open dialogues with science fiction writers on the topic of artificial intelligence and new technologies. This was stated by Svetlana Chupsheva, Director General of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“At the Archipelago, we are holding a literary residency, the Observatory of Fiction, which is attended by aspiring authors writing in the genre of social science fiction. For five days, from July 10 to 15, young authors will reflect on the Russia of the future, about what our country may be in 20-25 years,” she said.
The head of ASI added that participants will also receive practical seminars and master classes from mentors – famous science fiction writers – Vadim Panov, Anton Pervushin, Sergey Chekmaev, as well as a series of visionary lectures from experts of the Horizon 2040 project and an overview of significant challenges and trends. Among the topics of discussion:
How to achieve authenticity in fiction?
Turnkey world: how to create fantastic universes?
How does science fiction predict the future and reflect on the past?
The past and the future in fiction. How can a writer be relevant?
The final point of the work will be reading stories to mentors who will choose the best works created in the residence. The ASI cultural program also provides for face-to-face defense of young science fiction writers in front of experts from the film and animation industry (representatives of the Ministry of Culture, OKKO online cinema, CTC, etc.). As a result, some of the works may form the basis of screenplays.
“These 12 stories about Russia of the future will be a kind of announcement of our big science fiction contest “Russia 2050″, which starts on August 1 and will become an independent platform for cooperation of talented authors working in the genre of science fiction with publishers, investors, leading production companies and streaming platforms,” Svetlana said Chupsheva.
In addition, film screenings of Russian cinema will take place at the Archipelago 2024. For the first time in Russia, the Days of Cinema and Animation of the Far East will be held within the framework of the Kinorium. On July 13-14, you will be able to watch cartoons and films made by Far Eastern teams. Ten films will be shown in total. All Kinorium events are available and free for all participants of the Archipelago intensive, as well as residents of the city with children.
