Valentin Tataritsky at a meeting of heads of relevant bodies of the BRICS countries: “Technological progress is impossible without standardization”

Valentin Tataritsky, Minister for Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, took part in the first face-to-face meeting of heads of standardization bodies of the updated composition of the BRICS member states, which took place on September 27 at the site of the International Forum “Russian Energy Week”.

The event was organized by Rosstandart within the framework of the presidency of the Russian Federation in this international association.

The leaders discussed current forms and directions of cooperation, prospects for interaction between national standardization bodies in the current geo-economic conditions.

The agenda of the meeting included the implementation of “green” standards in construction and digital standardization. Approaches to conformity assessment and standardization of artificial intelligence on the example of healthcare and agriculture are discussed. The participants of the event shared their experience in implementing a unique methodology for evaluating commercial companies and ranking them according to the level of reliability, social and environmental responsibility within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals. New directions of standardization in the field of non-destructive testing and welding production are considered.

Valentin Tataritsky made a presentation on the importance of standardization in the system of technical regulation of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Minister reminded the participants of the meeting that this year marked the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the EAEU. Over the years of the Union’s functioning, joint efforts have succeeded in integrating into the EAEU law a mechanism for coordinating standardization work to keep product safety requirements up to date. In addition, the participants of the meeting were shown the progress of the implementation of the digital agenda of the Union in the field of technical regulation.

In conclusion, Valentin Tataritsky outlined the relevance for the international agenda of the EAEU of the multi-vector cooperation and the openness of the Commission to dialogue with the BRICS countries, including in the context of using standardization tools to eliminate technical barriers to trade.
