On October 14-15, Gohar Barseghyan, Minister of Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission, took part in the events of the IV World Food Forum of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.
Gohar Barseghyan spoke about the activities of the Commission together with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union to provide affordable and high-quality food, increase investments and innovations, as well as strengthen multilateral cooperation in the field of agri-food systems at the panel session “Prospects for Europe and Central Asia (challenges and solutions) in regional food systems”.
“The Eurasian Economic Path Declaration provides strategic directions for ensuring the availability of food for the population, increasing trade and economic ties, introducing innovative approaches and developing a technological base for the agro-industrial complex, as well as improving agrologistics and infrastructure. The solution of these tasks will contribute to the creation of the necessary conditions for saturating the common agricultural market of the Union with safe agricultural products and food, and increasing the volume of mutual trade,” Gohar Barseghyan noted.
On the sidelines of the Forum, the EEC Minister held working meetings with Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Qu Dongyu, FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Viorel Gutu and FAO Chief Economist Maximo Torero. Priority areas of cooperation between the Union and FAO in the field of agriculture, issues of sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex and ensuring food security were discussed.
During the meetings, issues of concluding a new Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and FAO were also raised, promising areas of cooperation in the field of agro-industrial complex for the medium term were identified.
