The Beijing Metropolitan Museum is hosting the exhibition “Russian Soul”, which takes place as part of the cross Years of Russia and China (2024-2025). This is reported by China Daily, a partner of the TV BRICS network.
Visitors will be able to see 56 masterpieces of the Tretyakov Gallery and get acquainted with various trends and eras of Russian art.
The exhibition opens with “Temptation” by N. G. Schindler and “Skirmish with Finnish Smugglers” by V. G. Khudyakov – works that were acquired by merchant Pavel Tretyakov in 1856, thus marking the beginning of the collection of the future museum.
The works presented in Beijing depict various landscapes of Russia, the inhabitants of the country, scenes from everyday life and the history of Russian society. According to the curator of the exhibition, Chen Jingjing, the organizers of the event wanted to form a holistic view of the country and its inhabitants through the eyes of artists.
“We not only talked about the traditions of Russian art, but also showed images of Russia, its nature, the crossroads of cultures of East and West, as well as everyday life captured by artists,” said the representative of the exhibition.
The event, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the PRC and the Russian Federation, will last until December 8. At the same time, 230 different events are planned for the cross-cultural Years of Russia and China. It is assumed that such a rich program will contribute to the expansion of cultural exchange and the growth of mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples.
It is noted that the works from the Tretyakov Gallery are not being shown in China for the first time. In 2015, the National Museum of China hosted an exhibition of works by the Wanderers, the movement of artists who shaped the style of Russian realism in the 19th century.
