The 12th International Film Festival “Cinema without Barriers” has started in Moscow. The program includes artistic, documentary and animation works about people with disabilities – about 100 paintings from 26 countries in total.

For more than twenty years, the festival has become one of the major events in the field of social cinema. Tens of thousands of applications for participation from different countries of the world were received.

Viewers will be able to see a variety of paintings telling about the lives of people with disabilities, how they overcome difficulties and achieve their goals and happiness.

The conditions of a barrier-free environment have been created at the festival site. In between sessions, viewers will be able to take part in master classes and discussions with the authors of the films.

In addition, there will be screenings of works created with the participation of directors and actors with disabilities.

According to the director of the festival Denis Rosa, the number of films devoted to the issues of the event has increased in Russia.

“For the first time, we will show so many – more than 40 works by Russian cinematographers, and this cannot but please. It seems to me that this reflects the changes that are taking place in society in relation to people with disabilities,” she said.

In turn, the chairman of the jury and director Alexander Kott stressed that “Cinema without barriers” is a competition in which there are no losers.

“By the very fact of making these films, their authors have already won. I am looking forward to watching all the films and wish all the filmmakers good luck,” he said.

The festival “Cinema without Barriers” is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
