On November 9, a round table on countering terrorism “Russia-Africa – Together against Terror” was held on the sidelines of the first ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi. The participants of the event confirmed the importance of increasing counter-terrorism cooperation in the context of implementing the provisions of the Declaration on Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Combating Terrorism, adopted at the Second Russia-Africa Summit (St. Petersburg, July 28, 2023).
The meeting was attended by representatives of Russian relevant departments, as well as experts from African countries with practical experience in directly countering the terrorist threat on the African continent.
The key aspects of Russian-African joint efforts in the field of counterterrorism were discussed: the main challenges for African states in the fight against terrorist groups; measures taken by the Russian Federation and African countries to prevent the activities of international terrorist organizations. Special attention was also paid to the threat to the sovereignty of African States from the use of neocolonial practices by Western countries.
The round table contributed to the strengthening of mutual understanding between the parties and the convergence of positions in the suppression of terrorism.
