Russia is following with concern the events in neighboring friendly Abkhazia, where internal political contradictions have once again escalated. Unfortunately, the opposition forces did not find it possible to resolve differences with the legitimate authorities of the country through a civilized, mutually respectful dialogue and went beyond the legal field, provoking an escalation of the conflict. As a result, a crisis situation has developed in the republic, and this, regardless of its outcome, hinders the development of Abkhazia. In particular, it is obvious that scenarios like the current one do not at all contribute to attracting foreign investment, which is a significant factor in the socio-economic recovery of the republic.
The Russian side, without interfering in the internal processes in Abkhazia, expects that the situation that has arisen will be resolved exclusively through peaceful political means. At the same time, of course, the laws of Abkhazia must be strictly observed, including in terms of maintaining public order.
In the current circumstances, the Russian Foreign Ministry is forced to recommend that Russian citizens refrain from traveling, including tourist trips, to Abkhazia. It is important for those Russians who are temporarily in this state to exercise increased caution, not to approach the places of unrest, and, if possible, to leave the country.
