Belarus and Russia strengthen the foundation of the Union State: a course to deepen fraternal relations

The head of the Permanent Commission of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security, Sergei Aleynik, at a joint meeting of the Permanent Commission of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security and the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said that Belarus and Russia have formed a solid foundation for allied fraternal cooperation.

According to Sergei Aleynik, the joint meeting demonstrated the similarity of views, interests, and approaches to solving the serious problems that are currently facing both regionally and globally.

The event was attended by Marianna Shchetkina, Head of the Representative Office of the Standing Committee of the Union State in Minsk.

Sergei Aleynik recalled that this year marks a special date – the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State.

“I cannot fail to note the powerful level of our bilateral relations that have developed over the past more than 30 years since independence,” commented the head of the relevant Commission of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament. – This year we have a special date: we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on the Creation of the Union State. And, of course, many events that take place in the context of this historic anniversary date are very important. Most recently, a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers was held in Minsk. A joint board of the foreign ministries of our two countries is scheduled for next week. A meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State will be held in early December,” Aleynik said. He noted that the Union agenda has always been and remains the focus of attention of both parliaments and relevant commissions, it is multi-level and the tone is set by the leaders of both countries.

“Our leaders set the tone and form the solid foundation of our bilateral allied fraternal cooperation. We, the parliamentarians, deepen it on our parliamentary platforms, placing special emphasis on cooperation between the regions of the two countries. Interregional cooperation occupies a special place on our agendas,” Sergei Aleynik stressed. The Belarusian senator noted that such meetings are very important in order to compare watches, approaches and outline ways for further cooperation on international interparliamentary platforms.

A wide range of issues related to interaction with international interparliamentary structures were discussed at a joint meeting of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security and the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. A good level of cooperation was noted within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member States, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Interparliamentary Union, etc.
