Russian Russian Geographical Society organized the international educational campaign “Geographical Dictation-2024” on November 16 at the site of the Russian Club at the Russian Embassy in Romania. This year it was held for the tenth time and set new records: dictation was written on 11,020 sites in 119 countries, including Russia. In total, the campaign has reached more than 3.6 million people since 2015.
After listening to the greeting of Russian cosmonauts from the International Space Station, several dozen participants of the action in Romania answered 40 questions about the discoverers, educators, travelers, and researchers of hard-to-reach corners of the Earth. 90% of the tasks were submitted by the participants of the contest “Write your question for Geographical dictation”. The questions were voiced by theater and film actress, People’s Artist of Russia Maria Aronova, essayist writer, General director of the L.N. Tolstoy State Museum in Moscow Vladimir Tolstoy, soloist of the musical group “Melnitsa” Natalia O’Shay (Helavisa). Russian Russian poet and thinker Leo Tolstoy, Russian poet and writer Sergei Yesenin, opera and chamber singer Fyodor Chaliapin, and the participants of the dictation heard tasks with the help of artificial intelligence technologies with the expert support of Sber AI.
The purpose of the campaign is to motivate people to study geography, popularize geographical knowledge and increase interest in the geography of Russia.
