On November 18-19, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), in accordance with the instructions of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in the G20 summit.
Following the results of the event, a leadership declaration was adopted, containing collective views on current world problems. At the initiative of Brazilian President L.Lula, the launch of the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty took place, which Russia joined among more than 80 countries founding it.
Special attention was paid in the discussions to the issues of reforming global institutions, promoting sustainable development and economic growth. The document reflects political plots in a way that suits Russia.
In the speeches of the Russian side, comprehensive approaches to the identified issues were outlined.
The summit was attended for the first time by representatives of the New Development Bank and the League of Arab States. The chairmanship of the Group of Twenty was transferred to South Africa, another BRICS country, the following year.
