On November 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry held a briefing in a hybrid format by representatives of the Russian interdepartmental delegation on the agenda of the draft Convention against Cybercrime agreed at the UN. The event was attended by diplomats and experts from the competent departments of the states who supported UNGA Resolution 74/247 (launched negotiations on a new treaty) and advocate its full implementation.
Russian diplomats, law enforcement officers and experts called for increased joint efforts in support of the consensus approval at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly of the draft resolution of its Special Committee approving the text of the Convention. We supported the signing of an international document in Hanoi in 2025 and its early entry into force, as well as the development of an additional protocol that would ensure the criminalization of an expanded list of criminal acts committed using information and communication technologies.
The discussion at the event showed the high relevance of the task of establishing and developing cooperation between the competent departments of the UN member states in countering information crime. The traditional practice of briefings by the Russian interdepartmental delegation on the agenda of the Special Committee will continue.
